DAY 1: MANDALAY
- MONYWA
Up the Chindwin River there is the city of Monywa and it will take you
approximately 4 hours to the city with its busy jetty which was the site
in WWII where the Japanese cleared the town with mortar fire in pursuit
of the British, which were retreating up the Chindwin!
DAY 2: MONYWA
- PHOWIN TAUNG - MONYWA
On the other side of the Chindwin River, visit the very impressive
Phowin Taung Caves - a seldom visited
complex of caves, some dating back to the 15th
century A.D.; there are over 500,000 images of Buddha in every ledge
and corner... and there is much more to visit...
DAY 3: MONYWA
- PAKOKKU
- BAGAN
As you leave the sites on the Chindwin River, you
continue down the Ayeyarwaddy River, on
your way to Bagan via Pakkoku - famous for jaggery, thanaka
logs, and of course the most famous
cheerots, so popular with millions of elderly Myanmar ladies!
Stretch out your legs, have a visit at this tobacco trading center
before taking a local boat to enjoy
the rich and varied river life on the way to Bagan...
